The 5th June ceremony in tribute to the 9th Battalion took place today on the site of the Merville Battery. On this very special day, the 79th anniversary of D-Day, we would like to thank all those who attended this tribute, which is so close to our hearts. We were honoured to have the presence of veteran Philip WARD, and we would like to thank him in particular. We honour the memory of the soldiers who fought so bravely. We are sharing with you a series of photos of this event.
The Merville Battery is a formidable German Army fortification which was located on the Eastern flank of the Allied landings on 6 June 1944.
Bombed several times without success, it was neutralised by the 9th British Parachute Battalion after an assault of unbelievable ferocity.
