Edward was a member of No.12 Platoon, “C” Company, 9th Parachute Battalion. He participated in the attack on the Merville Battery on the 6th June 1944, where he is believed to have been a part of the 2nd Sniping Group, who provided covering fire for the assault force. He continued to serve with the 9th Battalion throughout the Normandy Campaign, later the Ardennes, Germany and Palestine, before demobilisation in April 1946. He died in August 2000.
