The June 5 ceremony in tribute to the 9th Battalion took place today on the Merville battery site. On this special day of 78th DDay anniversary, we thank everyone who came for this tribute which is so close to our heart. We had the honor of having with us the presence of veteran Philip WARD, we would like to thank him in particular. Furthermore we honour the memory of the soldiers who fought bravely during this day. The Merville Battery is a formidable German Army fortification which was located on the Eastern flank of the Allied landings on 6 June 1944.
Bombed several times without success, it was neutralised by the 9th British Parachute Battalion after an assault of unbelievable ferocity.
